Quite nice to hear Lippard (I never have). I’ve always enjoyed her book _Mixed Blessings_ and this past summer found a used copy of _The Lure of the Local_ which was a great help on preparing for a performance conversation with Tom Wayman in Nelson on “The Local” (an kind of ongoing Kootenay “local” project Tom and I play with). Lippard’s book is extremely full and generative. One treat was that the book put me onto a stunning quote by Montana artist Mary Ann Bonjorni: “Place is what you have left.”
Yes, I’ve just ordered several of her texts…but haven’t been able to get to them yet…soon. Well, hopefully soon. I love how the practice slips into activism. I’m intrigued by the number of artists that I admire whose practice slips into activism, or who themselves slip into other, more material modes of expression.
What do you think?
